Prep Girls Hoops: Regional assignments set; play starts Saturday
Benton and Anna-Jonesboro will each host a 2A girl regional, starting next Saturday and on Friday, the IHSA released the bracket where local clubs Harrisburg and Eldorado will compete at Rich Herrin Gymnasium.
Harrisburg, the No. 7 seed will play West Frankfort, the 11th seed on Saturday. The first game of the day will be No. 8 seed Eldorado against No. 10 seed Johnston City.
The winner of Harrisburg and West Frankfort will get Hamilton County, the No. 3 seed, on Tuesday, February 15 at 7:30 p.m. The winner of Eldorado/Johnston City will play No. 2 seed Benton on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
The matchup between Harrisburg and West Frankfort will be the fourth meeting between the two SIRR Ohio clubs this season. The Bulldogs are 3-0 against West Frankfort with a 40-point win coming against the Red Birds at the Harrisburg Invite to start the season. The Bulldogs then won by 14 at Max Morris Gymnasium and again by 12 at home recently.
Harrisburg had one matchup with Hamilton County, coming at the Benton Christmas Tournament, where the Bulldogs lost by one.
The Regional championship is slated for 7 p.m. on Friday, February 15th.
In the other local 2A subsectional, where Anna-Jonesboro is the host, No. 1 seed Carterville awaits the winner of Vienna (6) and AJ (9).
Du Quoin in the 4 seed and will play the winner of Massac County (5) or Murphysboro (12).
The Anna-Jonesboro Regional final is slated for Thursday, February 17 at 7 p.m.
The A-J Regional winner will play the Breese Central Regional winner on Tuesday, February 22 at 6 p.m. in Nashville, while the Freeburg Regional winner will play the Benton Regional winner in Nashville at 7:30 p.m.
<b>Gallatin County, Christopher, Goreville hosts in 1A </b>
The Gallatin County girls' basketball team will be a host in the upcoming 1A Regional and will be the No. 3 seed, awaiting the winner of Elverado (6) or Joppa (10) in a matchup on Monday, February 14 at 7:30 p.m.
In the same regional, Meridian, the No. 2 seed, will play the winner of Galatia (7) or Hardin County (8) on Monday, February 14 at 6 p.m.
The Regional final will be held at Gallatin County on Thursday, February 17 at 7 p.m.
The Christopher Regional winner will join the Gallatin County Regional winner at the Sesser-Valier Sectional, along with the winner of the Waterloo Gibault and Goreville Regional.
<b>Wildcats put in Herrin 3A Regional</b>
Marion got the No. 5 seed and will play Centralia at 7:30 p.m. at the Herrin Regional on Tuesday, February 15.
The Herrin regional championship will be played on Thursday, February 17 at 7 p.m.
