Richard Cain, Sr., of Pittsburg

Richard A. Cain Sr., age 73, of Pittsburg, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2022, at the V.A. Medical Center in Marion, Illinois.

Richard was born September 25, 1948, in Carbondale, Illinois, a son of Harold and Zella (Borum) Cain. Richard grew up in Crab Orchard and graduated Crab Orchard High School. He joined the US Air Force then re-enlisted in the US Army, during the Vietnam War. He served 10 years in the military, discharged in 1976. He owned a cash register store, sales and service on the square in Marion, then worked as a coal miner, and later as salesman at Absher Motors. His last job was as a self employed handyman. Richard loved to hunt and fish in his spare time. Richard was a member of Masonic Lodge, American Legion, and Life Member of VFW.

He is survived by four children, Richard (Melissa) Cain Jr. of Pittsburg, Harold (fiancé, Sheila) Cain of Marion, Melinda (fiancé, Fred) Cain of Marion, and Venus (Eddy) Hawn of Quad Cities, IA, five grandchildren, Mikayla Cain, Madison Cain, Austin Frey, Mataya Frey, and Grace Frey, significant other Lana Reach of Murphysboro, and three siblings, Ronald (Sharron) Cain of Eminence, MO, Nancy (Jimmy) Smiley of Marion, and Tom (Becky) Cain of Pittsburg. He is preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Zella Cain and three siblings, Valley Jo Cain, Mardella Cain, and Donna Dunbar.

Visitation will be Friday, June 3, 2022, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Mitchell-Hughes funeral home in Marion, Illinois. Masonic Rites will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. Friday by Makanda Masonic Lodge #464. Graveside services will be held Saturday, June 4, 2022, 1:30 p.m. at Coal Bank Spring Cemetery. Burial will follow at Coal Bank Springs Cemetery in Marion with full military honors.
