HHS concert Tuesday night previews band's return to SuperState

HARRISBURG - Harrisburg High School's concert band will play in a public concert tonight that will preview the band's upcoming performance at the Illinois SuperState competition.

The concert is 6:30 p.m. at Davenport Gymnasium at the high school.

SuperState is a concert band competition featuring the best bands from across the state. It is hosted each year by University of Illinois.

The competition is this Friday and Saturday at U of I's Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, at 500 S. Goodwin St., Urbana.

Earlier this spring, band members traveled to Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, both to compete with other bands and prepare for the SuperState competition.

Band director Hannah Drake said the public is invited to experience the band's performance tonight.

"We're excited about returning to SuperState, and we'd like to share our music with the local community before we go," she said.

Tonight's concert is free.
