CROSS COUNTRY: Panthers win Sparta Invitational

Pinckneyville's boys cross country team came in first place at Tuesday's Sparta Invitational, placing four runners inside the top 14 out of a total of 111 individual competitors. Cale Jausel led the Panthers with a tenth place finish, coming in at a time of 18:01.84.

Caleb Logan (12th), Garrett Johnson (13th) and Grant Batteau (14th) were the other Pinckneyville runners near the top of the field. Brady Louis was 26th, Hayden Carter 30th.

Du Quoin's top boys finisher was Nick Kirkpatrick in 39th, followed by Caleb Davis in 45th.

The Lady Panthers finished the meet in fifth place while Du Quoin's girls were sixth. PCHS's girls were led by a sixth-place showing by Sophie Keith, who ran a time of 20:57.00. Shania Opp (29th), Savannah Cheek (31st) and Lindsey Taylor (41st) also cracked the top 50 for PCHS.

DHS's Andrea Lopez was 14th, Olivia Cravens 22nd, Chloe Hill 32nd, and Kate Smith 38th.

The Panthers' next cross country meet is on Monday at Nashville.
