CROSS COUNTRY: DHS, PCHS teams solid at Murphysboro Open

The Du Quoin and Pinckneyville cross country squads participated in Wednesday's Murphysboro Open at Riverside Park with three of the four teams placing in the top ten of the twenty-plus schools in attendance.

Both DHS and PCHS finished strong in the girls' event, with the Lady Indians coming in seventh and the Lady Panthers eighth. Pinckneyville's Sophie Keith finished 12th overall of the 120 females with a time of 22:14.3. Du Quoin's Andrea Lopez was 19th, finishing in 22:37.8.

Red Bud's Keri Burmester took the individual win at 19:46.4. Mt. Vernon scored the team championship placing four runners in the top 20.

Two other Lady Indians were in the top 50 (Olivia Cravens, 32nd; Kate Smith 33rd) as were two additional Lady Panthers (Savannah Cheek, 34th; Shania Opp, 50th).

The PCHS boys were 5th of the 22 teams at Murphysboro and were led by Caleb Logan, who came in 27th overall with a time of 19:10.2. Panthers Garret Johnson (28th), Cale Jausel (31st), Hayden Carter (36th) and Brady Louis (40th) also placed in the top 50. Du Quoin, 15th as a team, had one runner in the top 50 - Jordan Kirkpatrick, 47th.

Carterville's Harrison Thomas (16:30.5) won the boys' race while Salem took the team title with four runners in the top 10.
