CROSS COUNTRY: Four Lady Indians medal at Kick-Off meet at SIU-E

Du Quoin High School's boys and girls cross country teams competed this past Saturday at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville in the First to the Finish Kick-Off meet where the Lady Indians placed 13th out of the 50 teams competing, and the boys were 25th. Over 700 runners from 50 high schools took part in the event.

Four Lady Indians placed inside the top 125 girls to earn a medal at the meet - Andrea Lopez (53), Chloe Hill (94), Kate Smith (96) and Olivia Cravens (120).

Jordan Kirkpatrick was 86th on the boys side to earn a medal for the Indians.

Class 1A state champion Anna Sophia Keller from Effingham (St. Anthony) dominated the girls' race, winning by over a full minute at 18:03. Carterville's Harrison Thomas won the boys' title with a time of 16:17. Rochester scored the girls' team victory, Salem placed four in the top eleven to win the team crown for the boys.

DHS's cross country squads compete again this Wednesday at Riverside Park in Murphysboro.
