CROSS COUNTRY: DHS girls, PCHS boys pick up wins

Du Quoin's girls cross country team placed first at the Chester Six-School Open on Monday with two Lady Indians placing in the top three as individuals.

Quinn Kirkpatrick finished with a time of 22:10, good for second place, and Andrea Lopez crossed the line fourth at a time of 23:20. Kate Smith (9th, 24:59), Olivia Cravens (19th, 26:50) and Kat Robinson (20th, 26:53) also made the top-twenty for the Lady Indians.

DHS's boys team finished fourth and was led by Nick King, who was sixth overall at a time of 19:19. Caleb Davis (16th, 20:41), Paxton Higgerson (35th, 23:52), Jacob Hill (44th, 26:48) and Bailey Leonard (50th, 29:57) also competed for Du Quoin.

<span style="text-decoration: underline;">Panthers win at West Frankfort</span>

Pinckneyville's boys finished in first place at Tuesday's West Frankfort Cross Country meet with Layton McNew's second-place overall finish leading five Panthers placed in the top-twenty.

McNew finished with a time of 16:15. The rest of Pinckneyville's best five times came from Garrett Johnson (8th, 17:32), Caleb Logan (15th, 17:52), Cale Jausel (16th, 17:59) and Ryan Brueggemann (18:15).

Du Quoin's boys were eighth as a team with a top-five of Nick King (9th, 17:36), Isaiah Francis (47th, 20:21), Kyle Lively (49th, 20:38), Paxton Higgerson (57th, 22:24) and Nate Manning (23:38).

In the girls' race, the Lady Indians finished fifth and the Lady Panthers sixth.

Quinn Kirkpatrick (8th, 20:24), Andrea Lopez (12th, 20:57), Kate Smith (20th, 22:29), Tayrnn Mays (27th, 23:44) and Olivia Cravens (28th, 23:48) led Du Quoin while Sophie Keith (6th, 19:50), Shania Opp (16th, 21:37), Hannah Porter (29th, 23:52), Madison Garavaglia (32nd, 24:11) and Megan Bagley (36th, 24:40) topped PCHS's finishers.

Both Pinckneyville and Du Quoin will be at Saturday's Carterville Cross Country Invitational.
