Fire at Great Meadows in Lexington 'a horror show'
Fire crews from multiple towns are fighting back a fire consuming a large part of Arlington's Great Meadows in East Lexington.
"It's extensive," said Lexington Police Lt. Joe O'Leary. "The wind has shifted, and it's heading toward Mass. Ave. where Lexington Toyota was.
"It's a horror show down there," he said.
Fire departments from Bedford, Concord, Arlington, Lincoln, Waltham, Weston, Hanscom Air Force Base, Cambridge, Reading, and Hopkinton are assisting.
O'Leary said crews beat back about half the fire, which destroyed "multiple acres" of dry grasses and wetland. No houses are in danger at this point.
Firefighters have set up a defensive line to contain the blaze as it shifts southwest.
Almost exactly one year ago, children set a fire in the area that hit four acres of the meadow.
