Salukis coming to town for cleanup, free football camp

On Wednesday, June 22, SIU football student-athletes and coaches will be performing community service in the Southern Illinois Region as part of their third annual Saluki Football Southern Illinois Clean-Up.

The City of Chester is proud to announce that it was chosen as one of their destinations.

On June 22, Saluki football head coach Nick Hill and approximately 50 members of the football team and coaches will arrive in Chester, pick up trash, enjoy lunch provided by the Chester Eagles, and then host a free football camp for kids.

The camp, which will be held at the Cohen Recreation Complex, is open to anyone age kindergarten to eighth grade.

Participants must be registered by a parent or adult guardian. Registration forms are available at Chester City Hall and online at www.chesterill.com. For more information, call (618) 826-1430.

The Community Cleanup and Youth Clinic initiative started in 2019 as a community service project in which the team spreads out into four communities to clean up trash in public areas.

Donations may be made to the cleanup efforts and can be made in support of an individual student-athlete's efforts. For example, if you contribute $10 per hour for 5 hours of work, your contribution would be $50. All donations will directly support the SIU football program.

Donations support a variety of needs, such as summer school scholarships, team meals, equipment, the student-athlete experience and more. The City of Chester wishes to thank you for considering a gift to support our SIU Saluki football student-athletes in their efforts to give back to the communities they live in.
