Volleyball team beats Dupo, Millstadt to claim title

The Chester Grade School Lady Jr. Jackets volleyball team swept the competition at the 2022 regional tournament to become the 2022 Regional Champions.

Members of the championship team include Addison Gottschammer, Riley Lochhead, Madison Stauffer, Annah Helvey-Ahring, Jessica Stumpe, Erin Liefer, Maggie Caby, Alyssa Coffey, Morgan Throop and Callie Davis. The Jr. Jackets are coached by Jenni Schroeder and assistant coach Jerina Reese.

In first-round action, Chester beat Dupo in three sets. In the first set the Jr. Jackets won 25-14. Dupo came back in the second set and won, 25-23 to force a third tiebreaking set. In the third set, Chester won a close, hard-fought, 16-14 game to advance to the title match.

On Thursday, March 17, the Jr. Jackets faced Millstadt in the title game. Chester won the match in two sets, 25-19 and 25-22 to claim the title of 2022 Regional Champions.

With the wins, the Jr. Jackets improved to an overall record of 14 wins and 10 losses. The team finished third in the St. Mary's A Team Tournament Feb. 5 and second in the 2022 Vicki Jany Tournament hosted by St. John Feb. 26.

Chester Grade School will now advance to the state sectionals Saturday, March 26, at Nashville and will face Aviston in the first round of sectional play.
