EHT Recaps: Herrin, Carterville among Day 1 winners

It may not have been considered a heavyweight fight, but in the early going, Gallatin County gave Herrin its best punch.

The Hawks traded first quarter leads on a handful of occasions, but Herrin put the clamps down defensively in the second quarter, holding Gallatin County to just two points in a 63-22 win Monday morning in the first game at the Eldorado Holiday Tournament.

Herrin got a game-high 12 points from 6-foot-2 junior guard Haydon Mayer, while sophomore Exavier Williams also finished in double figures with 10 points.

Riley Chrotoski netted nine in the win for Herrin (4-4), while Jonathon Harrison scored seven points. Reese Billinglsey had six points, while Kyrese Lukens, Slayde Huntley, Fox Conor and Taylor Brandon all finished with four points. Grady Cox had two points off the bench.

The Hawks got five points from Grant Jackson. Jaxon Knott and Mattix Sanidfer each finished with four points for Gallatin County, while Kiran Fillingim tacked on three points, while Noah Robinson, Tate Duvall and Jeremy Brugger all finished tossed in two points.

Gallatin County (2-8) returnes to play in Monday night's EHT elimination game at 10 p.m. against the fellow Greater Egyptian Conference member Hardin County.

Herrin moves on to Tuesday's 1:45 p.m. matchup against the Vienna.

<b>Vienna 63, Hardin County 53</b>

Owen Treat had a game-high 25 points in helping lead No. 8 seed Vienna past Hardin County Monday at the EHT.

Skylar Blankenship also finished in double figures for the Eagles (9-2) flipping in 12 points as five other players found the scoring column, including: Kaden Vaughn (9), Dawson Hill (7), Sean Acree (6), Charlie King (2) and

Buddy Clay (2).

Hardin County (4-6) was led by 10 points from Jake Vaughn, Gavin Smith and Kailen Gerdes.

Ben Vaughn netted nine points for the Cougars, while Bryson Cullum scored six points. Lance Ditterline finished with five points and Walker Bebout tacked on two points.

<b>Carterville 63, West Frankfort 46</b>

Carterville put three players in double figures as the fifth seed Lions knocked off West Frankfort 63-46 Monday at the EHT.

Peyton Bittle led the Lions with 18 points, while Aiden Hinton flushed down 14 points and John Stroud tossed in 11 points.

Townsend Barton added eight for CHS (8-2), while Blake Burkey scored seven points. Kade Lustenberger tacked on three points and Braden Wakey had two points.

West Frankfort (2-7) were led by Lucas Whittington's 13 points, while Drew Smith also finished in double figures with 11 points.

Preston King added eight for the Redbirds, while Cole Buckingham scored six points. Jack Hogg and Keagan Bowers each finished with four points.

<b>Fairfield 49, Anna-Jonesboro 33</b>

No. 4 seeded Fairfield needed to just put four players in the scoring column in earning a 49-33 win over Anna-Jonesboro Monday afternoon at the EHT.

Eric Rodgers led the Mules with 20 points, while Camden Robbins finished in double figures with 16 points.

Dylan Best added eight points and McGwire Taylor finished with four points.

Anna-Jonesboro (1-11) got 20 points from Landon Trammel, which included six straight 3-pointers as he was two away from tying a tournament record.

Ethan Carver scored six for the Wildcats, while Dylan Harrell tacked on three points. Dawson Trammel and Bryce Henry tacked on two points.

Carterville will play Fairfield on Tuesday at 3:15 p.m., while Anna-Jonesboro and West Frankfort will square off on the consolation side of the bracket in the 8:30 a.m. game Tuesday.

<b>Hamilton County 51, NCOE 39</b>

No. 3 seeded Hamilton County cruised to a 51-39 win over Norris City-Omaha-Enfield Monday afternoon.

The Foxes (11-1) put two players in double figures as Austin Harrelson had a team-high 13 points, while Wyatt Hamson tacked on 10 points.

Brady Thrane netted nine for Hamilton County and Jaden York scored seven points. Claven Leuke scored six points, while Grady Leuke and Layton Karcher each tossed in three points.

NCOE (4-5) got a game-high 15 points from Joel Hortin and another 10 points from Preston Long.

Cole Roberson scored seven points, while Cord Tucker (3), Aryon Jolley (2) and Jake Rush (1) rounded out the scoring for the Cardinals.

Hamilton County will play Eldorado in tomorrow night's quarterfinals at 7 p.m., while NCOE will take on Carmi-White County at 10 a.m. in the consolation bracket.

<b>Hardin County 63, Gallatin County 30</b>

Gallatin County was the first team eliminated at the Eldorado Holiday Tournament, falling to Hardin County 68-30 in the last game Monday night.

Hardin County jumped out to a 14-6 lead and took a 29-16 lead into the locker room.

The Cougars put three players in double figures as Jake Vaughn scored a game-high 16 points, while Gavin Smith tossed in 11 and Kailen Gerdes tacked on 10.

Bryson Cullum added eight points for the Cougars,while Lance Ditterline scored six points. Ben Vaughn finished with five points and Jonah Austin added four points. Nick Austin netted three points and Walker Bebout rounded out the scoring with two points.

Gallatin County, who fell in the first game of the day to Herrin, finished with six players in the scoring column as Tate Duvall had seven points. Mattix Sandifer scored six points, while Jeremy Brugger finished with five points. Noah Richardson, Grant Jackson and Wyatt Fromm all finished with four points a piece.
