Prep Soccer: Harrisburg splits contests late last week

Another come-from-behind victory fell one goal short as Harrisburg rallied for two goals down in a 3-2 loss to Carterville/Herrin Thursday night at the Michael Herrin Memorial Soccer Complex.

Carterville would strike first in the 26th minute of the first half and Harrisburg would show some fight striking back one minute later by a goal from Junior Jack Winters.

Cartervile would again capitalize with a goal in the 49th minute in the second half and another in the 51st minute, pulling ahead 3-1.

Grant Wilson would bring the dogs within one in the 56th minute but it would be to little to late for the bulldogs.

"We had plenty of chances that didn't go our way but I am extremely proud of the way we played (Thursday)," Harrisburg head coach Jared Butler said.  "This was one of those battles that just came down to which team was capitalizing on their opportunities."

On Saturday, Harrisburg improved to 5-4-1 on the year after picking up aa 6-3 road win over Lyon Co. Ky., in Eddyville's Lee Jones Park.

Jack Winters had three goals and one assist, while Cameron Johnson added one goal and one assist. Adrian Mann and Jake Mitchell would contribute with a goal each as well.

Jesus Aboyte played in goal for 59 minutes, not allowing any goals, while freshman goal keeper Keivaun Mann replaced Aboyte with 20 minutes remaining.

Harrisburg was scheduled to host Murphysboro Tuesday, who was ranked 38th in the state.
