JOHNSTON CITY -- The Indians made short work of conference rival Eldorado Friday night, opening the 2021 Black Diamond Conference schedule with an impressive 55-0 win.
Johnston City needed only eight downs to score on the first possession and led the Eagles 28-0 at the end of the first quarter.
They scored again early in the second quarter when Connor Mowery ran 18 yards with an interception.
The game went to continuous clock in the second quarter when the Indians tool a 41-0 lead. They eventually led 48-0 at the half.
The Eagles mounted a 13-play, 77-yard march down the field in the third quarter but failed to score.
The Indians put their finals points on the board in the third quarter.
Indians quarterback Heath Neibch completed 7 of 7 first half passes for 262 yards and four touchdowns. Junior running back Isiah Watson had 110 yards on six carries, including two touchdowns in the first half. He added another TD in the third quarter.
The Indians held the Eagles to 12 yards rushing and no passing yards while pulling in two interceptions in the first half.
The Eagles had 114 yards rushing for the game and 0-4 in passing.
Dylan Henshaw had 16 carries for 81 yards. Brock Cantrell had 32 yards on 15 carries.
The Eagles had only 7 first downs in the game.
Eldorado falls to 0-2 on the season and will host Flora on Friday.
The Indians improve to 2-0 and will host Fairfield on Friday. The Mules will come in to that game with a 37-game BDC winning streak.
