Prep Soccer: Harrisburg opens season with win over Aces

The Harrisburg soccer team opened the season with a 5-0 victory over the Mt. Carmel Aces at the Effingham Invitational Tuesday afternoon.
It only took five minutes for the soccer 'Dogs to put one in the back of the net as Jack Winters opened up the scoring sheet with a free kick past the Mt. Carmel goalkeeper.
Shortly after in the 14th minute, Grant Wilson slides a shot past the goalkeeper from an assist by Jake Mitchell and 12 minutes later Talon Thurston scored e a goal off of an assist by Wilson which would send the Bulldogs into halftime with a 3-0 lead.
In the 54th minute, Winters sent his second goal into the back of the net making it 4-0 and Kelsyn Fricker would then close the game out with a deep goal over the keeper making it 5-0.
"Anytime you can combine five goals and also keep your opponents from scoring you have to be proud of the boys" said Harrisburg head coach Jared Butler. "We know we have the talent to compete with anyone this year, it is just a matter of executing and preventing mistakes" said Butler.
Jesus Aboyte had seven solid saves and not allowing the aces to get on the scoreboard. The Bulldogs offense was clicking on all cylinders with 17 total shots on goal with 5 going in the back of the net.
The Bulldogs continued the Effingham invitational Thursday against Salem and will close out the tournament on Saturday against Newton and Effingham.
