Harrisburg, Eldorado unveil football schedules
A change in coaches for the Harrisburg football team wasn't the only facelift for the program in the offseason.
The Bulldogs' schedule will also have a much different look to it in the upcoming 2021 season, most notably as teams like Mt. Carmel and Carbondale are no longer on the docket.
Harrisburg, who went 2-4, this past spring, will kick off the season on August 27 against Cerro Gordo and will play four straight home games at Taylor Field.
Cerro Gordo, located east of Decatur, also co-ops with Bement High School and will make the three hour trek south to kick off the season. Harrisburg signed a two-year contract with the Broncos, however, COVID-19 this past year canceled the first game and this fall will be the only game played. Harrisburg will replace Cerro Gorodo with East Alton-Wood River in the 2022 season.
A couple of other newcomers to the Harrisburg schedule is Salem (Sept. 10) and Carterville (Oct. 22).
Salem went 3-3 this past spring with wins over Mt. Vernon, Breese Central and East Alton-Wood River. Carterville, a member of the Mississippi Division of the River-To-River Conference for one more season, was 4-1 this past spring. When the Lions move over to the Ohio Division in 2023, they will become a permanent fixture on the Harrisburg schedule.
Eagles to play four home games
Much like Harrisburg, Eldorado's football schedule got a little shakeup as Flora, who joins the Black Diamond Conference this season will make its way to Boz Adams Field in Week 3 this season.
The Wolves went 2-4 in the Little Illini Conference this past spring, picking up wins over Lawrenceville and Casey-West Field.
The Eagles finished 3-3 this past spring and open up the season at home against last year's BDC champion Fairfield.
In addition to Flora (Sept. 10), Eldorado will play host to Carmi-White County (Oct. 8) and Edwards County (Oct. 22).
