Rangerettes start season in style at Harrisburg

The Benton girls' track and field team kicked off its season last week, placing second at the Harrisburg Open, scoring 83 points and coming away with a handful of first place finishes.

Peyton Tieffel was a double winner in the 800, coming in at 2:39.5 and was a part of the 4x400 team that also included Mia Wills, a double winner as well, as she won the 400 meters in 65.2. Wills placed fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 29-6.5

Laindree Richardson and Kylie Cockrum each had a couple of personal records as Richardson scored a PR in the shot put (30-9) and the discus (79-7). Cockrum had a PR in the shot put (28-11) and the discus (76-10).

Jacey Eubanks "came out of retirement," according to head coach Andy Sloan to place second in the 800, crossing the line at 2:46.8 and was part of the winning 4x400 as well.

Third place finishes went to Blakely Johnson (Triple Jump, 29-11); Bryli Minor (100 High Hurdles, 19.6); and the 4x100 relay team of Wills, Johnson, Eubanks and Tieffel, who finished with a time of 56.9.

Hailey Wallace placed fourth in both the 1600 meter run (6:32.9) and the 3200 meter run (14:39), while the 4x200 meter relay team of Hill, Frailey, Minor and Richardson turned in a time of 2:09.9 for fifth place.

Brooklyn Frailey was sixth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 15.1, while she finished eighth in the 200 meter dash, crossing the line at 32.4.

Chloe Hill was ninth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 15.6 and turned in a time of 34.4 in the 200 meter dash.

"It was a nice first meet for our 10 competitors," Sloan said. "We are really think, but I thought we competed hard and got some much needed experience. The first meet in nearly 700 days felt good."
