Harrisburg takes down Teutopolis Pleasant Plains

The Harrisburg High School baseball team continued its hot streak to start the season as the Bulldogs picked up a pair of wins in Effingham over the weekend.

Harrisburg beat Teutopolis 6-1 and Pleasant Plains 10-0 as the Bulldog stayed perfect, improving to 4-0 on the season.

In the Game 1 win over Pleasant Plains, Andrew Bittle (1-0) went the distance in the shutout win, allowing just one hit, striking out 13 as Harrisburg scored two runs in the fourth, five in the fifth and two more in the sixth for the short-game win.

Ben Brombaugh was 3-for-3 with an RBI, a run scored and a walk, while Cameron Ande went 2-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored.

Javie Beal, Noah Boon, Luke Miller and Bittle all had one hit. Boon had a pair of walks, three runs scored and an RBI, while Krayton Morse (0-0) scored three runs and had an RBI, to go along with, a pair of walks.

In the Game 2 win over the Wooden Shoes, Drew Hawkins got the start and went three innings, allowing two hits and striking out four, while Chance Moscardeli came on in relief to get the win, working two innings, allowing one run on one hit with two K's and one walk.

Offensively, Harrisburg had 13 hits, while leaving 12 on base. The Bulldogs stranded 19 runners in all on the day.

Javie Beal continues to be a fixture as the lead off batter in the Bulldogs' lineup as the senior went 3-for-4 with a sixth inning home run, finishing with two RBI and two doubles.

Ben Brombaugh, Cameron Ande and Noah Boon all had two hits on the day as Brombaugh added an RBI, while Ande scored one run.

Krayton Morse, Andrew Bittle, Ethan Golish and Jackson Pittman all had one hit.

Brombaugh's RBI in the first inning scored Colby Morse and that lead held until Teutoplis tied the game in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Harrisburg grabbed the lead back in the top of the sixth when Beal crushed a two RBI home run and Morse scored on a wild pitch. The Bulldogs got two more runs in the seventh when Ande and Pittman both scored.

Harrisburg is scheduled to host Marion today (Tuesday) and will play host to Johnston City on Wednesday. The Bulldogs close out the season Saturday in a doubleheader at home against Pinckneyville.
