C-Z-R holds off late rally by Eagles

Eldorado pulled to as many as six points in the third quarter, but couldn't find the end zone again in a 22-16 loss to Christopher-Zeigler-Royalton Saturday afternoon at Boz Adams Field.

The win is the second straight for C-Z-R, who beat the Eagles 21-10 last season and have back-to-back wins over EHS for the first time since 2009-2008.

Caleb Davis got the Bearcats on the board in the second quarter, giving them an 8-0 lead and Brett Janello hooked up with Eli Reeves on a 26-yard pass and catch for a 16-0 advantage.

The Eagles were able to cut the lead in half when Parker Price found pay dirt from six yards out and EHS got the two-point conversion to go into the locker room down 16-8.

In the third quarter, Reeves scored his second touchdown of the day when he rattled off an 85-yard run to go up 22-8 and then EHS senior QB Aiden Whitlock hooked up with Ezra Burtis from 52 yards out to pull to within six, but could get no closer.

C-Z-R picked up 314 yards of total offense on Saturday, while Eldorado was good for 219. The Eagles rushed for 109 and threw for 110.

Price had 47 yards on 11 carries, while Dylan Henshaw mustered up 41 yards on eight carries and Burtis finished with nine carries for 18 yards.

Whitlock was 5-for-14 with an interception and 110 yards, hooking up with Burtis two times for 67 yards. Nolan Henson had one catch for 31 yards, while M. Owens had a catch for nine yards and Price had one grab for three yards.

Eldorado will close out the season with a pair of road games, traveling to Edwards County this Friday and finishing off the spring season the following week at Fairfield.
