Eagles land two on All-Conference

Eldorado head softball coach Rick Dempsey considers it a "corner turner."

Two of his players, Emma Wargel and Paige Munds were selected in the 15 picks for the Black Diamond All-Conference Softball Team and with two picks at No. 16 and 17, Dempsey believes the team is on the right track.

"I believe we have turned the corner to be receiving the respect in the softball league and I am proud we received the selections we did receive."

Wargel finished with a .543 batting average and an on-base percentage of .648. Wargel had 50 hits in 92 at bats this past spring with 13 doubles, four triples, four home runs and 37 RBI.

"Emma is working to be the best pitcher in the south, along with solid hitting skills," Dempsey said. "She can play defense with the best of them. Being young with two more years to improve and get stronger is the big plus for her. She is becoming well-known for her skills all over southern Illinois."

Munds had a batting average of .527 and an on-base percentage of .648. She had 48 hits in 91 at bats and had eight doubles to go with six triples, 13 stolen bases and 16 RBI.

"Paige has been a leader and a force to reckon with," Dempsey added. "She has great knowledge and skill to play the game. She is just a real competitor."
