The Chester girls track and field team finished sixth at the nine-team Old Settlement Invitational Meet at Ste. Genevieve April 1, but roared back to be the runner-up at the Red Bud meet on April 2.
At Ste. Genevieve the winner was Notre Dame of Cape Girardeau with 181 points, followed by Valle Catholic (128); Ste. Genevieve (126); Saxony Lutheran (102.50); Dexter (68); Chester (40.50); Perryville (34); Fredericktown (24); and West County R4 (10).
Lady Jackets who earned points were Josie Kattenbraker, Peyton Clendenin and all four of the CHS relay teams.
Kattenbraker finished 4th in the 300-meter hurdles; 4th in the high jump; and 5th in the 100-meter hurdles. Peyton Clendenin finished 4th in the triple jump.
The CHS relay teams finished fourth in the 4 X 100; fifth in the 4 X 400, and sixth in the 4 X 200 and 4 X 800.
In the 200-meter dash Peyton Clendenin placed 7th. Lauren Soellner placed 7th in the high jump; Avery Runge finished 8th in the 800-meter run and Madison Kribs finished 8th in the 1,600-meter run.
Finishing 10th for CHS were Lexus Iverson in the 100-meter dash and Ava Lochhead in the 400-meter dash. Iverson also finished 11th in the 400-meter dash and Peyton Clendenin finished 11th in the long jump.
Rounding out the Lady Jacket's competition were Alyssa Seymour (12th, 200-meter dash) and Shelby Roth (13th, long jump).
"The girls did well in a nine-team event that featured some of the best teams in southeast Missouri," said CHS Head Coach Jenny Cartwright. "We are young and still trying to find our best fit in the lineup of events. We will get better as the season goes on."
RED BUD MEET
The Red Bud Lady Musketeers won their own meet with 204 points, followed by Chester with 132 points. New Athens was third with 48), followed by Gibault (16); Christ Our Savior Lutheran (8) and Steeleville (2).
The Lady Jackets had 13 athletes among the "Outstanding Individual Athletes" named at the meet, including the top individual point earner for the meet, Josie Kattenbraker, with 36 points.
Other outstanding Chester athletes were Lauren Soellner (26), Peyton Clendenin (10), Samantha Eggemeyer (6), Avery Runge (4), Madison Kribs (4), Hannah Blechle (4), Alyssa Seymour (2), Avery Miers (2), Alex Hennrich, Shelby Roth (1), Alexus Iverson (1), Taylor Hennrich (1), and April Amburn (1). All together the Lady Jackets earned 100 points from individual performances.
Kattenbraker, a sophomore, led the Jackets in points with two championship finishes and two runner-up finishes. She won the high jump with her leap of 5-0, won the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 51.5, then placed 2nd in the long jump (14-11.5) and 2nd in the 100-meter hurdles (17.59).
Peyton Clendenin won the triple jump with a 29-6.5 performance. Lauren Soellner was runner-up in the triple jump with her leap of 27-6. Soellner also was runner-up to Kattenbraker in the high jump with a jump of 4-8.
The Lady Jacket relay teams placed 2nd in each of the four relays. The 4 X 800 relay team of Avery Runge, Ava Lochhead, Taylor Hennrich, and Maddie Kribs turned in a time of 13:23 in their runner-up performance. Red Bud won with a time of 12:35.
Shelby Roth, Ava Lochhead, Cami Schroeder and Alyssa Seymour placed 2nd in the 2 X 200 relay with a time of 2:18.06. Red Bud won that relay with a time of 1:58.78.
Chester's 4 X 100 relay team of Shelby Roth, Lexus Iverson, Peyton Clendenin and Hannah Blechle recorded a time of 59.15 to finish 2nd. Red Bud was the winner with a time of 57.18.
Finally, the meet ended with the 4 X 400-meter relay. Cami Schroeder, Shelby Roth, Peyton Clendenin and Lexus Iverson turned in a time of 5:16 to place 2nd. Red Bud complete a sweep of the relays with a win and a time of 4:53.
Other notable performances by the Lady Jackets were:
• Shot put: Samantha Eggemeyer (3rd, 24-6.5) and April Amburn (6th, 20-4.5).
• Discus: Alyssa Seymour (5th, 54-1); Gracey Roth (6th, 49-0) and April Amburn (41-4).
• 1600-meter run: Avery Runge (4th, 7:39).
• 100-meter dash: Lauren Soellner (3rd, 14:38); Hannah Blechle (4th, 15:14); and Avery Miers (17:46).
• 800-meter run: Madison Kribs (4th, 3:06) and Taylor Hennrich (6th, 3:14).
• 400-meter dash: Alex Hennrich (5th, 1:19.68); Lexus Iverson (6th, 1:19.71) and Gracey Roth (1:26).
• 200-meter dash: Lauren Soellner (4th, 31.62) and Avery Miers (6th, 34.88).
