JoAnn Marie Tomberlin, formerly of McLeansboro

JoAnn Marie Tomberlin, aged 91, of Mission, Kansas, was called home to her Lord and Savior on Aug. 12, 2022.

JoAnn was born in 1930 in Nashville, Georgia, to Benjamin Ernest and Vida Mae Vickers.

JoAnn spent her early years in Tampa, Florida with her brothers Billy (Wanda) Vickers and Bobby (Billy Jo) Vickers.

She met her husband, William Tomberlin, in Nashville, Georgia, and they enjoyed 70 years of marriage before he died in 2019.

Bill's career in the Air Force took them all over the world, where JoAnn's warm heart and Southern hospitality touched many lives. During Bill's service, they had three children, William Lawrence (Valerie) Tomberlin, Victor (Laura) Tomberlin, and Judith (Stacey) Crawford.

JoAnn continued to minister to others both in her church congregation and missionary community while Bill served as a Southern Baptist pastor. During retirement, JoAnn was a Master Gardener, served on the McLeansboro, Illinois Beautification Task Force, and owned Tomberlin Haus and Gartens.

JoAnn's kitchen knew no strangers. She hosted Bible studies, mentees, missionaries, friends and family, with a warm meal and an open heart for anyone who joined them.

JoAnn is survived by her three children; one brother; five grandchildren, Conna (Tim), Noonday, Amanda (Vic), Lauren (Andrew) and Jon; and nine great-grandchildren.

A family memorial was held in Kansas City on Monday, Aug. 22, 2022.

JoAnn was laid to rest alongside her husband at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery near St. Louis, Missouri. A graveside service was held on Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2022, with the Rev. Russell Anderson officiating.

Memorial donations in JoAnn's name may be made to the First United Methodist Church in McLeansboro.
