Eva Marie Ahlers of Carbondale, formerly of Du Quoin

Eva Marie Ahlers, 97, of Carbondale, passed away at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 7, 2022 at her residence.

During World War II, Eva worked for Curtis Wright Company in St. Louis, building airplanes. She then became a homemaker.

Eva was of the Baptist faith.

She was born Feb. 15, 1925 in Pinckneyville, Illinois, the daughter of Jacob C. and Gertrude (Wolfe) Bird.

She married Joseph H. Ahlers on May 3, 1946 at Corinth, Mississippi and he preceded her in death on Sept. 26, 1984.

She is survived by one son-in-law, James Baker of Du Quoin; one grandson, Christopher (Heather) Baker of Carbondale; one granddaughter, Robin (James) Bateman of Florida; four great-grandchildren, Amber Saylor of Du Quoin, Dustin Scronce of Du Quoin, Christin Young of Tennessee, and Colton Baker of Carbondale; two step-greatgrandchildren, Holly Williams of Carterville and Randi Stilley of Mt. Vernon; and one sister, Marcella Balheimer of Missouri.

Eva was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one daughter, Linda Baker; two brothers and one sister.

Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 11, 2022 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park in Du Quoin.

Friends may make memorials to the family, which will be accepted at the funeral home.
