Robert G. Bridges of Du Quoin

Robert G. Bridges, 82, of Du Quoin, passed away at 9:57 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 19, 2021 at the Pinckneyville Community Hospital.

Bob had been a barber for 30 years. He had also been a heavy equipment operator for Consol #2 Coal Mine for 26 years.

Bob was associated with the Mulkeytown Christian Church. He was a member of UMWA and he was a U.S. Army veteran.

Bob was born on Feb. 14, 1939 at Du Quoin, Illinois, the son of Lester and Pearl (Quinn) Bridges.

He married Carol Sue Jones on April 27, 1962 at Du Quoin City Lake and she preceded him in death on Feb. 1, 2017.

He is survived by two sons, Glenn (Mary) Bridges and Robbie (Amy) Bridges, all of Du Quoin; six grandchildren, Jessica (Nick) Brooks, Jeremy (Tiffany) Grab, Erica (Keith) Harris, Amy (Luke) Lay, Kalin Bridges, and Zeke Fourez; five great-grandchildren, Carli Harris, Ethan Harris, Bailey Brooks, Carter Brooks and Hailey Grab; and one sister, Janet (John) Batteau of Du Quoin.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and one brother, Jimmie Lee Bridges.

Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2021 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin, with Rev. Nathan Jackson officiating.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.

Everyone in attendance is required to wear a mask and asked to socially distance.

Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park in Du Quoin.

Friends are invited to make memorials to the Vision Church, which will be accepted at the funeral home.
