William Walter "Woody" Woods, 80, of Matteson, Illinois, and formerly of Murphysboro, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2021 at the Franciscan Health Hospital in Olympia Fields, Illinois.

Woody had been a welder at Caterpillar. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of the V.F.W.

He was born Jan. 9, 1941 in Carbondale, Illinois, the son of Walter and Ethel Marie (Tippy) Woods. He married Billie Ruth Buckingham and she preceded him in death.

He is survived by one daughter, Wendy Woods of Steger, Illinois; two grandchildren, Chase (Suzette) Manfredini and Nico Manfredini, both of Steger; two great-grandchildren, Archer and Coraline Manfredini, both of Steger; seven stepchildren, Elizabeth June Bauer of St. Louis, Linda Lou Pendleton of DeSoto, Illinois, Brenda Kay Clover of Springfield, Illinois, Patricia Ann Taylor of Murphysboro, Edna Mae Harrington of Pevely, Missouri, Kenneth Holland of Chester, Illinois and Robert Dale Clover of Cary, North Carolina; one step-grandson, T.C. Stewart of Murphysboro; a sister, Shirley (Fred) Keppner of Harrisburg, Illinois; one brother, James Woods of Nashville, Tennessee; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Woody was preceded in death by his parents; wife; stepdaughter La Donna Sue Clover; a brother, Larry Dean Woods; and a sister, Margaret Ann Jarvis.

Visitation and a graveside service will be held on Monday, Oct. 11 at Elkville Cemetery in Elkville, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 12:30 to 1 p.m., followed by the graveside service at 1 p.m. The Rev. Joe Wagner will officiate. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Du Quoin V.F.W., American Legion and the U.S. Navy.

Those attending the service are asked to go directly to the cemetery.

Friends are invited to make memorials to the Elkville Cemetery; they will be accepted at the funeral home.
