David Vernell Newbold of Creal Springs

David Vernell Newbold, 64, of Creal Springs, passed away at 4:21 p.m. on Tuesday, June 22 at the Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion.

He was born on May 12, 1957 in Williamson County, Illinois to the late Dewey and Isabelle (Ferrero) Newbold.

David is survived by his loving family, including two sisters, Judy (Newbold) Boyd and Barbara (Newbold) and Danny Hilliard; niece Dawn (Boyd) Ciarlette; four nephews, Phil Boyd, Cory Hilliard, Trent Hilliard and Shane Hilliard; several great-nieces and nephews; as well as cousins, extended family and friends.

David will be deeply missed by his dog, Toby, who was his best friend.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother-in-law Phil Boyd.

David grew up in Creal Springs, Illinois, and was a retired roofer of 20-plus years. He was dedicated to fishing on the river and was a very tenderhearted person, willing to help anyone. David was well known by everyone as "Crocket."

David will be remembered as a very loving brother and uncle to his sisters and all of his nieces and nephews and a great friend to all who knew him.

Funeral services will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 26 at the Cosby-Sloan Funeral Home in Creal Springs, with the Rev. Gaylon Parks officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until the funeral hour. Burial will follow in Newbold Cemetery.
