Richard Dean Stevens of Galatia

Richard Dean Stevens, 80, of Galatia, passed away at 11:05 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 10, 2021 at the VA Hospital at the Community Living Center in Marion.

He was born Dec. 6, 1940 in Eldorado Hospital to Edna (Griffin) and Cliffton C. Stevens.

Private graveside service will be held at noon Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2021 at Ebenezer Cemetery in rural Galatia with the Rev. Mike Weaver officiating.

Richard served his country as a sergeant in the United States Air Force. He was a Vietnam veteran. Richard was a lifelong farmer in his community. He was an avid professional bass fisherman.

After retiring from farming and professional fishing, he devoted himself to restoring antique John Deere tractors.

He married Mary Alma Adkisson on Aug. 24, 1963 at New Hope Baptist Church.

Richard is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Alma (Adkisson) Stevens, and his brother Alan Stevens. Richard is also survived by his daughter, Robyn Stevens, and her spouse Thom Goodin; granddaughter, Keira Jane Goodin; daughter, Rachel Stevens-Evans, and her spouse Laren Evans; granddaughter, Mary Kristie Anderson, and her spouse Michael Anderson; two great-grandsons, Chase and Kane Anderson; and stepgrandchildren, Ethan, Isaac, Wyatt and Avery Evans. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Jean Adkisson, and several nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Linda Weaver and Eugene Stevens.

Richard was a good family man who loved his wife and children, and devoted his life to his family and his farming.
