Elmer Lee Williams, 83, of Du Quoin, passed away at 12:58 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2020, at the Belleville Memorial Hospital in Belleville.
Elmer was a retired driller for Arch Coal Company. He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ. He was a member of the UMWA, Du Quoin Masonic Lodge, Shriners and the AARP. Elmer was a U.S. Army veteran.
He was born June 5, 1937 at Cutler, Illinois, the son of William and Norma (Ferguson) Williams.
Elmer married Alma J. Pierce on Sept. 3, 1976 at Du Quoin, Illinois, and she survives.
He is survived by his wife of Du Quoin; son, Ricky Lee Williams of Du Quoin; grandchildren, Ricky Williams Jr. and Jamie Bullock; four great-grandchildren and a sister, Delana Gremmels of Chester.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ardell Williams.
Graveside services will begin at 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 20, 2020, at the Sunset Memorial Park in Du Quoin with Rev. Joe Wagner officiating.
Friends may call from 1:30 p.m. until time of service Friday at the cemetery. Masonic services will be conducted at the cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Du Quoin VFW and American Legion.
Friends may make memorials to the Shriners Crippled Children's Hospital, which will be accepted at the funeral home.
Visitors are requested to remain socially distant at the graveside and everyone in attendance is required to wear a mask.
