Robert J. Zettler Sr., 88, of Tamaroa, passed away at 11:25 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 14, 2020 at the Du Quoin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Bob was the road commissioner for Tamaroa. He had also worked at Zettler Sawmill and U.S. Gypsum in Pinckneyville. He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War.

He was born Nov. 7, 1932 at Du Bois, Illinois, the son of George and Elda (Miller) Zettler.

He married Helen Swallers on May 28, 1955 and she preceded him in death on Nov. 7, 2012.

He is survived by his children, Brenda Gray and companion Richard Gray of West Frankfort, Gary (Sue) Zettler of Tamaroa, and Heather (John) England of Boonville, Indiana; two sisters, Anna Mae Loucks of Sesser and Edna Morgan of Kansas City, Missouri; grandchildren, Robert "Bobby" Lemmons Jr. of Du Quoin, Danny (Tabitha) Lemmons of Carmi, Jamie Zettler of Smithville, Tennessee, Kelsie (Anthony) Mayo of Boonville, Indiana, Devan Summers of Tamaroa, Jacob Summers of Du Quoin, Brandon Summers of Du Quoin, Zoe Mare of Steeleville, Baylee Mare of Boonville, Indiana, Holly (Davey) Zimmerman of Dowell and Sherry (Aaron) Aldridge of Elkville; several great-grandchildren and two great-great-granddaughters.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one son, Robert J. Zettler Jr.; one daughter, Kathy Zoller; one grandson, Byron Epperheimer; three brothers, Tommy Zettler, Harold "Dean" Zettler and George "Boonie" Zettler; and two sisters, Loretta Gladson and Viola Dublo.

Per Bob's request, cremation rites were accorded.

Military graveside rites will be held at a later date at the Old Du Quoin Cemetery at Du Quoin, Illinois. The Searby Funeral Home website will be updated when a service is scheduled.

Friends may make memorials to the family, which will be accepted at the funeral home.
