Harrisburg Kiwanis Club hears updates on park district facilities

The Harrisburg Kiwanis Club met Aug. 24 at Morello's Restaurant.

Blake Emery, executive director of Harrisburg Township Park District, was guest speaker. Emery updated the club on changes, improvements and events taking place at the park facilities.

He said one of the top priorities is updating all park facilities to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Emery listed several projects at park facilities that have been updated, are in process now or are planned for next year to make them accessible.

Grants have been awarded to the park district to assist with the expenses.

Emery mentioned that shelter renovations are planned at Paul Emery Park along with the addition of equipment at the skate park, lighting at the tennis/pickleball/basketball multipurpose court and playground shade structures. Emery reported on all the events and activities occurring at the park.

After a question about vandalism in the park, Emery indicated that there is, unfortunately, still a high level of vandalism mostly from youth ages 12 to 16.
