Grant funds science equipment, books for fifth grade classrooms

Chester Grade School fifth grade teacher Tammy Liefer received a $980 Hands-On Science 2.0 grant from the Lambda State Foundation for Educational Studies, Inc., a constituent of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International.

The funds were used to buy science equipment and science-themed novels for all three fifth grade classrooms at CGS. This grant was a follow-up to Liefer's 2019 project Hands-On Science.

Fellow members of the local Delta Kappa Gamma chapter, Beta Delta, assisted Liefer with her project by providing letters of support and helping her complete the application. The chapter also voted to pay for the shipping and handling of the materials so all of the grant funds received would directly benefit the students. Once the funds were received, members helped her place labels in the 95 new novels.

The fifth grade students were excited with all of the new items this grant provided and have been putting them to good use.
