The Illinois Supreme Court has certified Jackson County's Drug Treatment Court.
The specialized treatment court that will target non-violent offenders with substance use disorders and place them in intensive substance abuse treatment programs, which includes increased drug testing and monitoring and weekly court contact with the drug court judge. The effort is a partnership between the court system and substance abuse disorder treatment professionals.
In Jackson County, drug court team meetings and the certification process began in February 2020 but was halted due to the pandemic. The process resumed in 2021.
"I am excited about the future of drug court," Presiding Judge Christy Solverson said in a news release. "Our director of court operation, Allison Mileur, has designed a drug court program consistent with the needs in our county. Judge Bost has been preparing the team. Our team is trained and ready to accept participants. They are excited and committed. I am confident that the Jackson County Drug Court will make a difference in the lives of the people in Jackson County."
First Judicial Circuit Judge Steven Bost will lead the drug court team.
