Chicago congressman will introduce censure of U.S. Rep. Mary Miller

A Chicago congresswoman told a Chicago TV station that she will introduce a measure in the U.S. House to censure U.S. Rep. Mary Miller for her "Hitler" comments of last week.

Jan Schakowsky, whose district represents the north side of the city and some North and Northwest suburbs, told ABC-7 that Miller's comment at a Moms for America rally on Jan. 5 in Washington D.C., are unacceptable.

A day before the attacks at the Capitol, Miller, a southern Illinois congresswoman, invoked the name of Adolf Hitler during a speech, saying he was "right on one thing: Whoever has the youth has the future."

The comment is often attributed to Hitler, who organized youth groups to introduce children to Nazi ideologies.

"We cannot allow speakers to get up to crowds and preach things that are so detrimental to people of color or Jews or immigrants, and we've had enough of that," Schakowsky said.

Miller, a freshman representative from Oakland, has since apologized for the remarks. She is the new congresswoman from the 15th congressional district, which includes Saline and Gallatin counties. The seat was held for years by John Shimkus, who did not run for reelection in 2020.
