Harrisburg replacing city's original water mains

HARRISBURG - The city of Harrisburg is replacing the oldest part of its network of water lines, with work being done Monday next to the Saline County Courthouse.

Some of the city's first water lines, made of cast iron, have remained in service since running water first was installed in Harrisburg.

Over the years, as sections of the old lines have deteriorated, repairs have been necessary. The city has been replacing large sections of old lines in recent years, and the ones near the city square are the oldest of those lines.
