Just a few years in, Perfect Solution Disposal is growing through hard work and customer loyalty

CARRIER MILLS - Dusty and Bryli Depew knew when they started Perfect Solution Disposal a few years ago, the numbers for startup businesses were stacked against them. But, with hard work and support of their growing customer base, they continue to grow and expand.

You've probably seen one of their large bright green and black trash trucks in traffic either in Saline or Gallatin County, if not both.

"We are so thankful to the many customers we have," Dusty Depew said. "We couldn't do it without the support of the local community. We try to let people know how we do business, and why doing business with us benefits the community."

His formula is simple: Perfect Solution Disposal, or PSD, as it's often abbreviated, takes trash it picks up to the landfill in Saline County.

"For each ton of trash, the county gets a portion of that. Not all the big companies out there are taking their trash to the Saline County landfill, but we do. The county gets back its percentage that way."

And, the 10 employees are all local community members, he said.

"The money they spend stays as local as it can," Dusty said.

While many businesses are feeling the pinch of COVID-19 closures, reduced hours and related issues, business is going well for PSD.

"Actually, we've picked up some new customers," Bryli Depew said. "I think what may have happened is now that some people are at home, they have time to look over their expenses and compare what they're spending with other companies to our price. Then, they make the switch."

PSD charges $20 per month as its entry-level price for weekly trash pickup.

"We have also expanded our services, so now we provide residential, commercial and roll-off service," Dusty said.

He said they've experienced an increase in the number of people renting roll-off containers for special cleanup projects.

"Right now, a lot of folks are home, and they were already in spring-cleaning mode. Now, it's like spring cleaning on steroids," Dusty said with a laugh. "Our tonnage is definitely up."

And, they plan to stay running their company for some time.

"People say all the time that if a company offered to buy us out, we couldn't refuse a big check," he said. "But, the thing is, we're not interested in selling out. We want to continue to work and live in this community and help improve it. That's why we're doing this. We want to make our community stronger."
