Gallatin County 4-Hers win big awards at Illinois State Fair

On Sunday, Gallatin County 4-H members Cooper Givens and Murphie Horton presented their projects at the Illinois State Fair in Springfield.

While 2021 may look a little different than in the past due to COVID-19, it was still a great time. This year more than 70 types of projects were exhibited. Both youths had amazing experiences and if you see them give them big congratulations!

Cooper presented his Animated Film project, a video made using computer graphics and animation software. Each second of the film is several frames of still images that all had to be blended together to create the film. His hard work paid off, and "The Fight for Freedom" was the Illinois 4-H State Fair Champion! Great job and we look forward to seeing your future films!

Murphie brought a Cooking 301 project. For this project contestants had to make a food item as well as complete an experiment from the cooking curriculum. She decided on the Rich White Cake recipe and made butter as her experiment. Her cake looked fabulous! She received an Inspire Award, which are presented to projects that judges find creative, unusual, engaging and inspiring. Fantastic job, Murphie, and we look forward to seeing and tasting future cakes and goodies!
