There is strength in numbers

A man woke up one Sunday morning and disgustingly proclaimed, "I'm not going to church today!". His wife, however, had different ideas.

She said "Oh, yes! You are going to church this morning and I'm going to give you three reasons why. First, I'm your wife. Secondly, I said so. Thirdly, you're the pastor!". Yes, even preachers have Sundays where the devil tries to discourage us from coming to church.

The devil hates it when Christians gather at any time. Sunday morning is especially a tough time for the devil as God's children meet in corporate worship and prayer. There is strength in numbers. We recognize that God is stronger than the devil.

We also recognize that, without God, the devil is stronger than us. When we gather together on Sunday morning, we get a renewed strength as God blesses us for being in His house. We also gain strength from each other as we fellowship together. The devil knows this and will try everything possible to persuade us to stay home from church on Sunday.

The devil might start his attack on us beginning on Saturday night. He might try to give us a restless night of sleep. Somehow, we pull ourselves out of bed on Sunday morning and go to the closet. The devil tells us we don't have anything to wear even though we have so many clothes they are falling out of the closet.

Next, we stagger to the bathroom. We can't get our hair to do just right. It is flat on one side and puffy on the other. Even hair spray won't tame that "bed head!"

Ladies, you are really vulnerable. The devil will cause your makeup not to look just right. For example, you have too much lipstick on the upper lip and not enough on the lower lip. The next thing is time to get the kiddos out of bed. They fuss and flop in bed finally giving in to you under the threat that you are going to ground them from the most precious things in their life, electronics! You know the routine, "If you are not out of that bed in 10 minutes, there will be no X-box, PlayStation, I-pad, and/or cellphone for the rest of the day!". By now, your mood has turned as black as an unlit coal mine. It is at that very moment the devil whispers " just stay home today."

You have to choose. Will you allow the devil to win or will you overcome his tricks and do what you know God wants you to do?

Your Sunday morning may get off to a rough start. I guarantee you, however, that your day and week will be better when you are obedient to God's call for us to fellowship with one another. Sunday is coming. Come to think of it, this preacher better check on his supply of hair gel!
