Local veteran thankful for Christmas decorations at cemetery

HARRISBURG - Local Korean War veteran Don Cooper said he's grateful to a local business for its generosity.

Cooper, who has used personal funds to help enhance the veterans memorial area of Sunset Lawn Cemetery, known colloquially as "Little Arlington," said he had hoped to be able to take some action to decorate the area for the Christmas season and winter months.

However, due to public safety concerns as well has physical limitations, Cooper said he was unable to do any decorating himself.

Instead, he contacted Wayman Winters, owner of Pickford's Flowers and Gifts in Harrisburg about possible decorations.

The business donated two large artificial poinsettias for display on the raised platform overlooking the white crosses at the memorial.

"I really appreciate him taking the time and effort to do that," Cooper said. "It's something that beautifies the memorial and lets us take pride in our community while paying respects to our veterans."
