Diabetic screenings test 127 residents of Saline, Gallatin and White counties

SALINE COUNTY - The Egyptian Health Department celebrated the American Diabetes Association's Alert Day on March 27 by providing screenings in several local counties.

The Diabetes Today Resource Team for Gallatin, Saline, and White counties sponsored its third annual Alert Day screening event to help community members determine their risk for developing Type 2 diabetes. A total of 127 participants were screened.

We would like to thank each organization who provided a location, supplies, publicity, giveaways, media promotion, and volunteers. Without their assistance, the events would not have been possible.

Local organizations and what they provided: Harrisburg Walmart, location, setup and water; Subway, meals to volunteers plus volunteers Carrie Wiggins and Coartney Livingston; Integrated Health, flyers and volunteer Beth Moore; Ferrell Hospital, snacks, and volunteers Wes Henson and Shana Fleming; Fresenius Kidney Care, promotion, and volunteer Cheryl Humm; VAMC, volunteer Loran Morris; Ridgway Golden Circle, location, setup, gift basket, and volunteers including Rosalee Davis/team lead and Sharon Gwaltney, print/mail out promotion, meals to volunteers, and supplies; Carmi Plum Street Pharmacy, location, setup, coordinating of donated items; University of Illinois Extension Office, gift baskets; Button Chiropractic Natural Health Center, supplies, giveaways and volunteers Dr. Rhonda Button, Tamara Mitchell, Shannon Roser and Natalie Spencer; Christopher Rural Health Department, printed flyers for distribution; WEBQ, promotion; Ridgway Medicine Shoppe, gift certificate; Harrisburg Register/Eldorado Journal, promotion; Wabash Christian Village, volunteer Debbie Hoskins and giveaways; Southern Illinois Healthcare, testing supplies and promotion; Shawneetown Gillio's Pizza, gift certificate; Omaha Furniture, flower arrangement; Eldorado Medicap Pharmacy, gift basket; Robin Bass, donated gas card; Carol Wolf, donated Walmart gift card.

The Egyptian Health Department's HIP program provided volunteers Elizabeth Cook, Clara Gordon and Penny Crowe and supplies; and the department's Health Education provided supplies, promotion, flyers, resources, giveaways, and volunteers Phyllis Wood, Lizz Cooley and Kimberly Scott-Pilkington.

Many others not listed shared the event on their pages, distributed flyers, and shared in other ways.
