"I have always had an interest in the restaurant business," said Tom Folder about the new "Burg Café" which opens Friday at 6 a.m. at 9 East Poplar St. in downtown Harrisburg,

Breakfast will be available all day. The restaurant will be open daily from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

"My chefs are highly trained," he said.

"We are featuring healthy options, horseshoes, burgers and chef's creations," he said.

The interior is designed around an open kitchen with bare brick walls throughout.

"Fresh ingredients prepared by trained chefs will be what the restaurant is known for," he said. "There will be plenty of vegetables and fruit."

A pastry chef will prepare fresh breads daily as well as buns for the historically themed burgers.

"The burgers are named after local historical sites and events. Sandwiches and French toast, biscuits, cinnamon rolls and other pastry will be made by the pastry chef," he said.

There will be a children's menu and carry outs.

Outdoor seating on the wide Poplar Street sidewalks is available in warmer weather. Patio heaters are available for those wising to push the season.

"I think people will really like sitting out there in good weather," he said.

A banquet area with a gas-fired fireplace on the second floor is already attracting bookings. Tall windows let in plenty of natural light.

"People always ask about parking," he said. "They don't realize there is plenty of public parking in the rear of this building."

The building was built in the late 1800s and has been completely renovated.
