Eldorado man charged with sexual abuse

An Eldorado man was jailed Monday afternoon on charges he had unlawful sexual conduct with two juveniles under the age of 10.

WFIW Radio identified the suspect as James G. Roberts, 69, of Indiana Street in Eldorado. He was arrested following an investigation carried out by Illinois State Police and the Saline County Sheriff's Department.

Roberts faces a class X felony charge of predatory criminal sexual assault and a class 2 felony charge of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. The alleged victims were six and seven years old, police said, and were allegedly assaulted by Roberts on Sunday.

Roberts has been lodged in the Saline County Detention Center at Harrisburg on $15,000 cash bond.

If convicted of the most serious of the charges - the class X felony - Roberts faces up to 30 years behind bars. The class 2 felony carries a range of sentences of between three and seven years.
