OBITUARY: Mary Cecilia (Metten) Raben
Mary Cecilia (Metten) Raben, age 88 of Harrisburg, passed away at 1:02 a.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at Harrisburg Medical Center.
Mary was born on May 2, 1925, in DuQuoin, to the late John H. and Helen (Bates) Metten. On Sept. 22, 1945, she married Carl W. Raben and he preceded her in death on June 11, 2013. Mary was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Harrisburg, Pre Cana Marriage Counseling Team, Ladies Auxiliary, formerly active 4-H Leader, an avid Bearcats basketball supporter and a home bureau member.
Surviving family members include seven children, Carla Pritchett and husband Rusty of Galatia, Mary Ann Barrett and husband Larry of Eldorado, Patty Harris and husband Dan of Annapolis, Md., John Raben and wife Sarah of Chatham, Jackie Schwartz and husband Mark of Galatia, Dr. Steve Raben and wife Nancy of Mascoutah and Tom Raben and wife Kristi of Evansville, Ind.; 23 grandchildren, Paula Cullum, Bill Pritchett, Keith Pritchett, Mary Rose Pritchett, Barbara Haenel, Michael Barrett, David Barrett, Chris Harris, Brion Harris, Greg Harris, Kate Harris, Joe Raben, Leigh Betts, Norah Raben, Caleb Schwartz, Jenna Schwartz, Jaylyn Schwartz, Josh Raben, Jacob Raben, Jordan Raben, Jared Raben, Andrew Raben and Kelsi Raben; 12 great-grandchildren, Kendra Cullum, Jada Cullum, Luke Pritchett, Cecilia Pritchett, Joseph Pritchett, Alexa Haenel, Addi Harris, Jay Harris, Scarlett Harris, Graham Harris, Nash Raben and Parker Betts; several nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband Carl W. Raben; and brothers and sisters, Helen (Toots) Metten, Elizabeth (Nin) Archibald, Victoria Perryman, George (Bill) Metten, Adian (Jack) Metten, Jacqueline (Jackie) Blythe and Dorothy Metten.
Funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 22, 2014, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Harrisburg. Father Tom Barrett will officiate. Burial will follow in Sunset Lawn Cemetery in Harrisburg. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, March 21, 2014, at Reed Funeral Chapel.
