Lynette Rose 'Junior' Shafter
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Lynette Rose "Junior" Shafter, 84, passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2011, in Epoch of Chestnut Hills, Brookline, Mass., after a long illness.
JuJu, as she was affectionately known by her grandchildren and great-grandson, was born in Kuttawa, Ky., on Dec. 8, 1926, of Learlene and Lynn Peek.
Services will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 16, 2011, in the chapel at the First United Methodist Church in Harrisburg. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10 a.m. at the church. Graveside services will be held at Harrisburg Sunset Lawn Cemetery following the service.
Junior was the devoted wife for 64 years of the late Albert J. Shafter, Ph.D. She is survived by her son, A. James Shafter (Virginia Robertson) of Decatur; daughter, Belinda "Benjie" Shafter Davenport (Kent) of Weston, Mass.; daughter-in-law, Martha Shafter of Murphysboro; and a sister, Ramona Bonnette of Blairsville, Ga.
JuJu was the loving grandmother to Melissa Shafter Duncan, Bradley Shafter Davenport, Kendall Davenport, Courtney Davenport and her stepgrandchildren, David Oseos, Hector Oseos, Jesus Oseos, and Carlos Oseos; and great-grandson, A.J. Duncan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Michael B. Shafter of Murphysboro; and her brother, Kenneth Peek of Du Quoin.
She attended public schools in Benton and attended Southern Illinois University, where she met Doc.
She and Doc spent their retirement years traveling and doting on their grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Southern Illinois University Foundation in Carbondale. The family is being served by Walker Funeral Home in Carbondale.
