William E. 'Bill' Hull

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[William E. "Bill" Hull, 73, of rural Carrier Mills, passed away at 5:50 p.m. Monday, April 4, 2011, at his residence.

Bill was born on Aug. 17, 1937, in Mountain Township, Saline County, to the late Iley and Anna (Vinson) Hull. He married Delores Dunning on Sept. 21, 1957, in Harrisburg. Bill was a member of Faith Chapel near Harrisburg.

Bill is survived by his wife, Delores, of rural Carrier Mills; a daughter, Sharon Hull of Akron, Ohio; one son, Jim Hull and wife, MariBeth, of Mattoon; a daughter, Christi and husband, Doug Wallin, of Mascoutah; seven grandchildren, Elizabeth (Puckett) Douglas and husband Kevin of Fisher, Addison and Rachel Hull of Mattoon, Lexi and Ethan Hollowell of Mascoutah and Molly and Haley Wallin of Mascoutah; one brother, Raymond Hull, of Harrisburg; three sisters, Wanda Barnett of Pontiac, Mich.; Agnes Ruth and husband, John Barger, of Orion, Mich.; Phyllis and husband, Rollie Rosser, of Waterford, Mich.

Bill was preceded in death by a daughter, Sherri Jean Hull; and three brothers, Russell Hull, Randall Hull and Donald Eugene Hull.

Bill was a member of Faith Chapel, where he taught Sunday School and Wednesday Bible Study for many years. He was also a member of the Salem Cemetery Board, Equality Masonic Lodge No. 2; Valley of Southern Illinois, and the Ainad Shriners.

Bill&#39;s life was devoted to education, both his own and that of those around him, for over 40 years. Bill completed his bachelor&#39;s degree in education at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale in 1965 and his master of arts degree in educational administration from Michigan State University in 1966. Throughout the years, he served many capacities on various educational boards and committees, including the Executive Board of the Educational Council of 100. From his beginning as a teacher in a one-room school, Bill went on to serve as principal in schools in Shawneetown, Ridgway, Carrier Mills and Lake Orion, Mich. He served as Unit Superintendent in Shawneetown, Ridgway, and Carrier Mills and later, Superintendent of the Educational Service Region covering Saline, Gallatin, Hardin and Pope counties. Bill was recognized for his work when he was named Vocational Educator of the Year by the Southern Illinois Occupational Education Leaders in 1982, and later presented the Distinguished Educator Award by Phi Delta Kappa, Gamma Lambda Chapter, in 1987. After retiring in 1992, he went on to work for FGM Architects as an educational consultant for 15 years.

Funeral services for William E. "Bill" Hull will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 7, 2011, at Reed Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Gary Clark will officiate; burial will follow in Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 6, 2011, at Reed Funeral Chapel. Masonic rites will be performed by the Equality Masonic Lodge No. 2 at 6 p.m. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or Faith Chapel Church; envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
