Possible skeletal human remains were discovered underneath the house while dirt was being moved, Hardin County Sheriff Lloyd "Smoky" Cullison said. At about 11:30 a.m. Sunday, the homeowner flagged down a deputy, who called Cullison, the sheriff said.

The bones appeared to have been there a while, but were likely to be human, Cullison said. There was a tooth among the bones that looked human. But Cullison plans to leave the official determination to forensics specialists.

"We took (the bones) into custody and called the Illinois State Police," Cullison said.

A team of crime scene technicians were expected to arrive Monday morning, Cullison said. The investigation will continue based upon the findings of the crime scene technicians.
