SOFTBALL: Morrow homers twice in Pinckneyville's win at Mt. Vernon

Pinckneyville had averaged just over two runs per game over their previous five, but found their offense on Wednesday at Mt. Vernon with a dozen hits resulting in a 10-6 victory over the Lady Rams for their 20th win of the season.

Brooklyn Morrow smashed a pair of homers, giving her a team-record twelve bombs on the season.

The shoot-out began in the top of the first when PCHS scored four times, twice on each RBI single by Maddie Jones and Mariah Clark.

The Rams got one back on a sacrifice fly in the third, then Emma Banach drove home Morrow to make it 5-1 mid-fourth.

The Lady Panthers got four again in the fifth - two on Andrea Morgan's RBI base hit, and two more on Morrow's first round-tripper, giving them a commanding 9-1 lead.

Mt. Vernon refused to quit, though, chipping away a run in the fifth and sixth before Morrow's second blast (a solo shot) in the top of the seventh.

Down 10-3, the Lady Rams made one last run at Pinckneyville with three hits and a walk in the bottom of the seventh cutting the lead in half, but Clark was able to stop the rally before things got too interesting.

Clark got the win, allowing four earned runs on fourteen hits and four walks with seven strikeouts in the circle.

Morrow (3-4, 3 R, 3 RBI, 2B, 2 HR), Jones (2-5, 2 RBI, 2B), Banach (1-4, RBI), Clark (3-4, 2 RBI), Morgan (1-4, 2 RBI), Kylee Kling (1-3, 2 R, 2 BB) and Josie Gleason (1-2, R, 2 BB) had hits for PCHS.

Pinckneyville (20-9) will host Marissa on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
