Mabel (O'Roark) Wallace

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Mabel (O'Roark) Wallace, 90, passed away at 7:15 p.m. Friday, May 15, 2009, at Shawnee Rose Nursing Home after an extended battle with Parkinson's disease.

Mabel was born Jan. 30, 1919, in Harrisburg to Ed and Nell (Eades) O'Roark. She graduated from Harrisburg Township High School in 1937. On Sept. 21, 1940, she married Glenn Lowell Wallace in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

She worked as a secretary for many businesses and institutions in Saline County. She started working as a court recorder for Judge Sommers in the late 1930s and retired as Dr. Albert Shafter's executive secretary from A.L. Bowen Children Center in Harrisburg in the mid-1980s.

Mabel was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Harrisburg where she taught a Sunday School class for 50 years. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi, Saline County Homemakers Extension and the Methodist Women's Wesleyanns.

Mabel is survived by her daughter, Kay Wallace of Harrisburg; a granddaughter, Cindy Potter and husband Brian of Galatia; a grandson, David Unsell and wife Dana of McLoud, Okla. and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Lowell Wallace; her parents, Ed and Nell O'Roark; and a brother and sister-in-law, Thurston and Vaughnay O'Roark.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, May 18, 2009, at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. The Rev. Paul Widicus will officiate with burial to follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 17, 2009, at Reed Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church at 122 W. Poplar St., Harrisburg, Ill. 62946.
