Small animal reportedly causes two-vehicle accident

<span>CHESTER - On Monday afternoon, officers with the Chester Police Department were called to the scene of a two-vehicle traffic crash on Route 150 east of Union School Road in Chester.</span>

<span>The driver of a 2014 Kia Soul, identified as a 24-year-old Jessica L. Mason of Cutler, was traveling west on State Route 150 when a small animal ran into the path of her vehicle.</span>

<span>Mason told police that she applied her brakes to avoid the animal and in doing so, was struck by the vehicle traveling behind her. </span>

<span>That vehicle was identified as a 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix, driven by Courtney M. Harrison of Steeleville. Harrison told police she was unable to stop in time to avoid striking the Kia. </span>

<span>According to police, Mason was transported to Memorial Hospital in Chester due to a complaint of an injury. Harrison was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. </span>
