Ruby Coon

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Ruby Coon, 81, passed away at 1 p.m. Friday, July 24, 2009, at the Heartland Regional Medical Center, Marion.

She was born Dec. 26, 1927, in Murdock, the daughter of Marion F. Murdock and Alta E. Meyers, who preceded her in death. She was married to James R. Coon on Nov. 30, 1946, in Indianapolis, Ind., and he preceded her in death on Aug. 11, 1995.

Ruby served as the secretary to the chief of police in Crawfordsville, Ind. Her interests included yard work, watching golf tournaments on television and keeping in touch with all of her friends and relatives through the Internet. She loved reading and never lost the passion for learning. Mrs. Coon was patriotic and was very proud to be an American.

She has lived in Harrisburg for the past seven years. She is survived by her twin sister, Ruth Blair of Camp Verde, Ariz. She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Murdock of Arcadia, Mo. She is also survived by her three daughters, Judy Johnson, Eldorado, Patty Folkening, Sebastian, Fla. and Peggy Miller, Martinsville, Ind.; and a half-sister Jean Lamkin, Burlington, Ky. She has eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Private funeral services will be held for her immediate family at the Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg and a graveside service and burial will be conducted at the Murdock Cemetery in Murdock at 2 p.m. July 28, 2009. In lieu of flowers, family has requested that donations be made to the American Red Cross.
