Toddler found safe after Tuesday incident

A 3-year-old male toddler was found safe Tuesday morning a half-mile from his house near Walsh after being reported missing.

Chief Deputy Jarrod Peters, with the Randolph County Sheriff's office, told the Herald Tribune today that no names will be released until the investigation is complete.

"We got the call at 10:50 a.m. and he was found at 11:10 a.m.," Peters said. "He was found at Walter Lane and Schuline Road."

Peters said the toddler was found unharmed. He was found by Evansville resident Kevin Long, who was driving along Schuline Road.

The Evansville and Baldwin fire departments were paged out to aid in the search, which included representatives from the Illinois State Police, sheriff's office and MedStar Ambulance.

Peters said the Chester Police Department's canine officer, Sabo, was requested to help as well.

"We did inquire about their canine," Peters said. "He was in route when the child was found. That's another reason why we're getting our canine in August."

First responders were told the child had gone into the woods and had not been seen for 15 minutes. They were also advised that there was water on the property.
