BASEBALL: Panthers fail to keep up with Nashville
Nashville blasted out eleven runs on eleven hits and sent the Panthers to their sixth straight conference loss as the Hornets won 11-2 at Rigdon Field in Pinckneyville on Tuesday.
Nashville scored five runs in the top of the first inning and never felt threatened the rest of the day. Two walks, an error and four Hornet hits contributed to the 5-0 lead.
Pinckneyville got two back in the second inning when Adam Banach and Jacob Louis both walked and scored, but the Panthers would strand all seven base runners they had after that.
The Hornets kept tacking on, using a PCHS error to get two more in the third, capitalizing on a walk, a hit by pitch and two hits to get three runs in the fifth, and adding their eleventh tally with a walk and two base hits in the seventh.
Cole Bigham took the loss as the PCHS starter, Hayden Carter finished off the game in relief. Bigham (1-3), Louis (1-1, R, 2 BB), Miles Chandler (1-4), Tyler Rulevish (2-4), Nolan Luke (1-4) and Clayton Houghland (1-4) had Pinckneyville's hits.
PCHS (8-19, 2-8) hosts Murphysboro on Wednesday, Harrisburg on Friday.
